More often than we would like to admit, we pray with a deadline. When we immediately receive answers to our prayer, in the exact way we desired, we believe God hears our prayers. What is our attitude if the answer is a “NO” or “WAIT”?
Do we still continue to believe that our God is a Healer, Provider, Miracle Worker? Or do we curse God and take the easy way out like Job’s wife suggested?
In these moments, we can feel dejected, feel distant from God, or even feel like God isn’t just listening to our prayer. This happens primarily because we try to look at the whole situation from our perspective. We try to understand what the sovereign God is thinking with our limited understanding. We can never fully comprehend the way God works.
This unanswered prayer is for God’s glory. It can be to discipline us – to teach us patience or perseverance. It can also be a way for us to experience His power. Or it can be for various other reasons our minds yet cannot comprehend.
We can use this opportunity to re-evaluate our spiritual life. To ponder on various questions like:
1. Why do I follow Jesus? Why am I a Christian?
2. Does this situation change our relationship with God? If yes, is there even a slight selfish motive in following Jesus?
3. Does it change who we know Jesus to be? Will He still be a Healer, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper?
4. Can we still rely on God or has He become unreliable?
5. Can we completely trust that God has the best plan for us, though we are unaware of what our future holds? Can we completely trust His decisions even without a safety net below us?
Our God knows what He is doing. Our past is a proof of that. He has been with us through every storm, and He will continue to be. He has definitely got our backs.
